New year resolutions or goal setting are so last century. Why? Because they can potentially set you up for failure and hurt your self-confidence, which is the last thing you want when trying to move forward in life.

Every year new statistics confirm that resolutions often get abandoned after only a few weeks, so forget all about these and focus on setting powerful intentions instead.

Resolutions vs. Intentions

Working towards something that’s set in the future and is outside of yourself means you’ll always feel separate from it, which is why it can be nearly impossible to achieve. But coming from a place of intention means you are focusing on your inner world and the relationship you have both with yourself and with what you want and not least how you want to feel about it. This is what makes it so powerful.

Intention secrets

So what do you really desire? What is it that really drives you? Forget about material accumulations such as a new car or house and focus instead on how you want to feel. If you really want or need a new car, and by the way, there is nothing wrong with wanting things that make your life easier, then focus on how this will make you feel. Will you feel free? Grateful? Relieved? Open to opportunities?

You don’t need to know how to get there or what steps to take – but setting an intention is an important step to making it happen.

Why? Because where your attention goes – energy flows. In other words, you can make it happen if the true desire is there and if you put your intention into it. Things start falling into place, coincidences/luck – call it what you like, it all starts to happen if you’ve set your intention clearly and placed your emotions behind it to amplify it.

But you will still have to do the work to make it happen. A car is not all of a sudden going to be given to you out of the blue, but sowing the seed in fertile soil is the first and a very powerful step.

So how do you do it?

An easy step-by-step intention-setting guide

1: Think of something big that you’d like to accomplish this year. Stick to one or two things max and write it down.

2: Now, imagine you have just accomplished this with flying colours. You’ve done what you set out to do –  how do you feel?

3: Allow the feeling that comes to mind to be your intention and write down: I intend to feel (insert your intention)

4: Make it super powerful by turning your intention into an affirmation, that you can use like a daily mantra. Write it down in a place where you’ll see it every morning: I am (insert your intention).
